Marine Fabricators Association Southeast Regional Workshop Offers Beneficial Education

Marine Fabricators Association (MFA) Southeast Regional Workshop was a hit with attendees and exhibitors gaining new knowledge from beneficial educational sessions. The workshop was held in Southern Stitch Canvas & Upholstery LLC’s marine shop, on Oct. 25–26, in Gulfport, Miss., USA.

Hands-on education sessions included a step-by-step process of digital patterning software and demonstration of upholstery on a cutting table taught by Southern Stitch Canvas & Upholstery LLC’s shop owner Steve Wayne. Richard Givens, George Givens & Sons, shared his extensive knowledge of sewing machine maintenance and used a large wooden needle prop to explain various parts of a needle and the importance of changing needles regularly. Industrial Fabrics Association (IFAI) member Kathryn Maisto provided techniques for roll cushion and member Keith Purves, MFC, showed off his sewing skills while demoing how to sew on a U-zipper. Attendees also had time to network and meet up with the table top suppliers to learn about new products and services.

Both attendees and exhibitors reported that they enjoyed the hands-on educational content and equipment demonstrations.

The event was catered by Naomi’s Catering who kindly gave all the leftovers to local the Gulfport Fire Department, Gulfport Police Department and the Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department Canal Road Station.
